Winner of EVENT's 2023 Non-Fiction contest, Austen Lee’s writing has appeared in Glass Buffalo, Poetry Is Dead, PRISM international and Grain. She’s been a finalist for the Pacific Spirit Poetry Prize and the Edna Staebler Personal Essay Contest and won the 2017 James H. Gray Award for Short Nonfiction. Originally from rural northern Alberta, she lives in Edmonton.

MONI BRAR was born in rural Punjab and raised on the land of the Tse’Khene peoples. She is the recipient of the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award, the winner of The Fiddlehead’s Ralph Gustafson Poetry Prize, and a finalist for the Montreal International Poetry Prize. Her work appears in Best Canadian Poetry 2023 (Biblioasis).

RUSSEL THORNTON is the author of eight poetry collections, including The Hundred Lives (2014), which was a finalist for the Griffin Poetry Prize, and Birds, Metals, Stones & Rain (2013), which was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award, the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize, and the Raymond Souster Award.

He is one of the poets whose conversation and poetry is featured in What the Poets Are Doing: Canadian Poets in Conversation (2018). Thornton lives in North Vancouver, BC.

SUE GOYETTE lives in Halifax, and has published four books of poems, The True Names of Birds, Undone and outskirts (Brick Books) and Ocean (Gaspereau Press, 2013). She has also published a novel, Lures (HarperCollins, 2002). She's been nominated for several awards including the Governor General's Award for Poetry, the Gerald Lampert, the Thomas Head Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award, the Dartmouth Book Award and the 2014 Griffin Poetry Prize.

"A low buzzing emanated from the intercom in our apartment. The intercom was obsolete, having been replaced with a digital system that connected to our phones. But now when I passed the speaker on the wall it made a low humming sound, barely perceptible if I wasn’t standing directly beside it. Once, when I asked Manesh if he heard it, he pressed his ear against the device and said he didn’t hear anything. I read online that certain sounds were only perceptible to the young. It had something to do with how your cells died as you aged, and businesses used this to their advantage, installing devices that emitted a high-pitched squealing sound in front of corner stores where teens were known to loiter."

JOSHUA WHITEHEAD is an Oji-Cree/nehiyaw, Two-Spirit/Indigiqueer member of Peguis First Nation (Treaty 1). He is the author of the novel Jonny Appleseed (Arsenal Pulp Press), which was longlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and shortlisted for a Governor General's Literary Award in Fiction, the poetry collection full-metal indigiqueer (Talonbooks), which was shortlisted for the inaugural Indigenous Voices Award for Most Significant Work of Poetry in English and the Stephan G. Stephansson Award for Poetry.
